“No more sandwiches for you, Mailman, not while you’re driving anyway.”
As the world is inundated with drivers who are texting while operating vehicles – which is resulting in increased accidents, driving inefficiencies and corresponding safe-driving campaigns – we are reminded from time-to-time that a wide variety of roadway distractions are capable of creating a serious problem. And texting is merely one of those, while being a rather omnipresent one at that. But one Willard May was a well-enough meaning guy carrying mail in his tractor-trailer rig for the U.S. Postal Service when he just had to have a gnaw at that sandwich; Willard was hungry. And, of course, that essential bite would blow-up Ms. Brenda Walker’s New Jersey rear-end quite nicely. The take-away here is that drivers today are distracted by a universe of new devices as well as good old fashioned to-go food, and any alternate activity can cause the otherwise safe driver to lose focus and be responsible for a horrible accident in a nanosecond. Fortunately, this time around, Ms. Walker escaped life-threatening injuries.
